TEN SHADOWS

Summoning / Shikigami-based Technique Special Grade

OVERVIEW

The Ten Shadows Technique is one of the most powerful inherited jujutsu techniques, passed down exclusively within the Zenin Clan. It allows the user to summon and command up to ten unique shikigami, each with distinct traits, combat roles, and elemental properties. These spiritual familiars are summoned using hand signs and cursed energy, appearing through the user's own shadow as a medium.

What sets this technique apart is its versatility, adaptability, and long-term growth potential. If a shikigami is destroyed, its energy doesn't disappear—instead, its power is redistributed among the remaining shikigami, or its abilities are inherited by another summon (e.g., Divine Dog: Totality). This gives the user a scalable toolkit that evolves over time.

The user can also store objects or even themselves inside their shadow, making this technique incredibly tactical. It supports offense, defense, mobility, and even stealth—essentially giving Megumi the tools to adapt to any battlefield or enemy. However, its true potential lies in the summoning of Mahoraga, the ultimate shikigami, which even the Zenin Clan failed to master.

Megumi, despite being considered less powerful than Gojo, is seen as someone with exceptionally high potential, even earning Gojo’s respect as someone who could one day rival or surpass him—not by raw power, but by strategy and the limitless potential of the Ten Shadows Technique.

MECHANICS

The Ten Shadows Technique allows the user to merge cursed energy with their shadow, enabling a variety of strategic applications. By performing specific hand signs, the user can summon shikigami—each with distinct abilities tailored for combat, reconnaissance, or support. The shadows also function as a storage space, letting the user conceal and retrieve weapons or tools instantly for tactical advantages.

Shadow Manipulation & Shikigami Summoning

The Ten Shadows Technique harnesses shadows as conduits for cursed energy, enabling shikigami summoning, object storage, and shadow traversal through ritual hand signs and precise energy control. Each summoned spirit possesses unique abilities, while the shadows themselves function as an extension of the user's arsenal and mobility.

Adaptive Power

When a shikigami dies, its strength is inherited by others (e.g., Divine Dog’s "Totality" form).

Taactical Versatility

Covers offense (Nue), defense (Max Elephant), and evasion (Rabbit Escape).

Shadow Storage

Conceals items or the user for surprise tactics.

APPLICATIONS

Divine Dogs

Divine Dogs

These twin wolf spirits embody the technique's primal essence, serving as both hunters and guardians. Their keen senses detect cursed energy with predator-like precision, while their coordinated attacks create relentless pressure. The black and white wolves represent balance—when one falls, the survivor undergoes a metamorphosis into "Totality," inheriting enhanced physical prowess and a single-minded focus on destruction.

Divine Dogs Example 1

The white dog specializes in speed and evasion

Divine Dogs Example 2

The black dog focuses on power and offense

Nue

Nue

A chimera of nightmares, this winged monstrosity rules the skies with thunderous authority. Its feathers crackle with cursed electricity, discharging shocking bursts upon contact. The shikigami's grotesque appearance—part bird, part mammal—belies its strategic value in aerial assaults and area denial.

Nue Example 1

Nue's lightning strikes illuminated the battlefield like a storm god's wrath

Nue Example 2

Creating an electrified grappling attacks

Max Elephant

Max Elephant

Raw destructive power manifests in this colossal pachyderm, whose every footfall shakes the earth. Its trunk delivers crushing blows or geysers of pressurized water, while its sheer mass can collapse structures. The elephant represents overwhelming force, capable of altering terrain to the user's advantage.

Max Elephant Example 1

Attacks by trampling enemies or blasting high-pressure water from its trunk

Max Elephant Example 2

Capable of smashing through buildings and terrain

Rabbit Escape

Rabbit Escape

Purple is the ultimate application of the Limitless, created by combining the attractive force of Blue and the repulsive force of Red. This convergence creates an imaginary mass that erases anything it touches from existence, bypassing conventional durability by removing matter entirely.

Rabbit Escape Example 1

Creates a distracting swarm of harmless white rabbits that burst from shadows to overwhelm opponents visually

Rabbit Escape Example 2

Megumi uses them to vanish into shadows or reposition

Mahoraga

Mahoraga

The ultimate shikigami represents both the technique's pinnacle and its greatest peril. Eight arms wield varied weapons while the rotating wheel on its head symbolizes perpetual adaptation. Each survived attack makes it stronger, evolving counters until nothing can defeat it. Sukuna's brutal domination of Mahoraga showcased the shikigami's terrifying potential when fully unleashed. Earlier, Megumi's failed summoning attempt nearly cost his life, demonstrating why generations of Zenin feared this uncontrollable force.

DOMAIN EXPANSION

Chimera Shadow Garden

Megumi Fushiguro's Domain Expansion, a nightmarish realm where shadows consume reality itself. By flooding the battlefield with an ocean of darkness, the technique erases all boundaries between the user's shadow and the environment, transforming the space into a twisted playground of infinite shikigami potential. Within this domain, Megumi gains the ability to materialize countless shikigami clones simultaneously—not just copies of his standard ten, but hybrid amalgamations that merge traits from different summons. The shadows writhe with partial manifestations: fanged maws erupt from the ground, winged limbs snatch at foes, and half-formed beasts lurk at the periphery of vision.

What makes this Domain Expansion uniquely terrifying is its improvisational chaos. Unlike traditional domains that enforce rigid rules, Chimera Shadow Garden operates on predatory instinct, with the shadow creatures attacking in waves of ever-shifting tactics. Megumi himself can phase through the darkness, appearing and disappearing like a specter while directing the onslaught. The domain's environment actively aids him—shadows elongate to trip enemies, tendrils of darkness bind limbs, and the very ground becomes unstable as if walking through tar.

Range

Covers ~50 meters in darkness

Duration

Brief (1–2 mins) due to high energy cost

Effect

Turns the area into a shadowy realm, enabling infinite shikigami summons and clones

LIMITATIONS

Cursed Energy Consumption

Becomes exponentially worse with each active shikigami—summoning just two or three for extended periods leaves Megumi visibly fatigued, and maintaining his Domain Expansion risks complete exhaustion. This forces him to rely on hit-and-run tactics rather than prolonged battles.

Specific Counters

Light-based counters pose another critical weakness. Intense illumination disperses shadows, diminishing summoning precision and even preventing certain shikigami from materializing fully. Opponents like Reggie Star exploited this by using flares to disrupt Megumi’s formations.

Domain Neutralization

The technique also suffers under domain clashes. While Chimera Shadow Garden is versatile, it lacks the "sure-hit" effect of refined domains, making it vulnerable to being overridden by stronger ones—Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine sliced through it effortlessly.

Mental Strain

Most dangerously, Mahoraga’s ritual demands suicidal risk. The shikigami attacks both summoner and target indiscriminately, and failure to tame it means certain death. Even Sukuna only subdued it through overwhelming force, something far beyond Megumi’s current capability.
